"How To Stop Being A Procrastinator, The Perfect Guide"

Are you a professional procrastinator? If you answered yes, don’t worry, because you are not alone! Almost everyone, including me, procrastinates, and online school makes it especially hard to focus! In this blog I will be giving you 5 tips and tricks on how to stop procrastinating and increase focus! Now, let's get right into it!

My first and biggest tip is, GET RID OF ALL DISTRACTIONS! I know you’ve probably heard this one before, but it’s actually extremely important! You need to make sure that you don’t have things like your phone around you. Many people promise themselves that they won’t check their phone, but they almost never succeed. Remember, all it takes is one notification to side track you completely!

One of my favorite parts of studying is organizing and planning out my day. Trust me when I tell you that creating a to-do list will allow you to be so much more motivated and productive. You can literally speed through all of your work once you know what needs to get done for the day. Also, checking off tasks once you complete them is one of the most satisfying things ever. I guarantee that you will feel so much more accomplished utilizing this strategy. You can make you list on an agenda or any online resources. Personally, I really like the website Notion!

What I find very helpful is rewarding myself. Studies prove that it’s easier to pay attention when there’s something to look forward to, such as a reward! Rewards don’t have to be very grand or special. Getting a snack or going out for some fresh air are great! You don’t want to do something that you enjoy so much you can’t get back to working! Sometimes if you’re setting long term or bigger goals, you can have a bigger reward! For example, “If I get an A for math this semester, I’ll go to my favourite restaurant.”

What I’m about to say right now is probably the complete opposite of what most of you are doing. You should complete the harder tasks first! Now, I’m aware that most people think that getting the easier work done first will make you more productive, since you get to check things off your list. In fact, I used to think that as well, until I found out that you should actually finish harder assignments and projects first because you’ll have more momentum! By the end of your study session, you won’t have as much motivation, which is why you might keep pushing your harder tasks off. If you just get it done in the beginning, you don’t have to worry about it! The easier tasks can be done later since they’ll take less time.

My final tip is, talk to someone about your goals! You are more likely to complete something when someone else knows about it. It’s easy to forget or push off assignments when you’re the only person holding yourself accountable. When you tell a family member or friend, they can hold you responsible so you don’t slack off. Also, a bonus is that they will be there to celebrate your victories too! Whether it’s a big thing like getting an A, or a smaller thing such as getting your laundry done!

Those were just a few of my favourite tips and tricks regarding the prevention of procrastination. I hope you found these tips useful and will use them in your daily life to be more productive!
