How to Utilize Resources to Better Your Academics

Have you ever worried about how to obtain enough community service hours or how to organize your time wisely or even about where to start in the process of making your own club? Many students have been facing these issues and now during this pandemic, even more than ever. How are we going to find enough time, energy and planning to do all this? This is where resources need to be used. Around us, there are many tools that we may not be aware of, from social media to even peers at our school. These resources have helped me further myself even during a summer in the midst of a global pandemic:

1. Social Media

Social media may be something that you never want to try, and that's okay! Social media can be a positive and negative depending on the scenario! That’s why managing what you do on it is as important as using it as a resource! Creating an account on a platform like Instagram, Facebook or even Tikok can serve as a support. Firstly, following a nonprofit organization will do you good. Nonprofit organizations, one, are abundant and, therefore, picking something that you are interested in should not be as hard. Secondly, nonprofits give community service/volunteer hours and these hours that you put into the organization will help you build many skills such as teamwork, hard work and many other vital ones! Additionally, following a page like Just For You Tutoring on Instagram can get you to other links as well such as blogs/events that are written and hosted on their website. Blogs have many tips regarding a wide range of topics (becoming a better student, starting clubs, managing time and many others). Another fun fact is that some nonprofits shoutout other nonprofits for a larger audience and is also another way to find resources! P.S: That’s how I found out about Just For You Tutoring! Social media may sound like a risk but when used properly, can be one of the most important tools to use in your time schooling!

2. Friends/Peers

Friends and peers are another vital part of our lives. Every person has some experience whether in life and/or schoolwork. Friends and peers can introduce you to something new and exciting regarding what you need. Many high schools even have programs where older students (Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors) pair up with younger students to help them around any school issues they may have. Seeking advice or help from others is completely fine, the worst someone can do to you is say no or give you attitude. Honestly, a lot of people are willing and more than delighted to offer help!

3. Teachers/Counselors

Trust me, the teachers, counsellors and principals at your school know what they are doing. Whenever there is any issue, regarding getting the community service hours, struggling with choosing clubs, helping with college applications, the mentors in the building know what’s up. They can definitely guide you with any questions you may have. The good thing about this resource is that they are extremely accessible. Teachers, counsellors, etc. will always make time for you, through emails and even personalized meetings on Zoom. They will always be ready under any circumstance.

All in all, this pandemic does put a lot of stress on our backs and using what’s around us is the best way to jump over these obstacles! These resources are hidden around us and it is our own responsibility to find and utilize them accordingly!
