Taking a test can be very stressful as the test can determine your final mark or affect your overall average. Tests can cause you to feel fear or stress, depending on how confident you feel before you take your test. Personally, I feel stressed when taking a test, causing me to panic, therefore, below are 5 tips I use to relieve stress prior to taking any tests.
1. Taking deep breaths while writing your test helps to lower your heart rate. As you write your test, you may feel your heart beginning to beat faster due to nerves. When you take a deep breath, it allows your body to create a state of calmness, and it slows your heart rate so you can relax and take the test with ease.
2. Eat a full meal before taking your test. When you feel like you are starving, you tend to think about food and often cannot focus on another subject. Eating a full meal before taking a test allows you to feel full and gives you energy when taking the test. It will also help you to focus on your test questions instead of food.
3. Study your notes and try answering practice questions before your test. When you review your notes, you become more prepared for the questions on your test. This helps to limit any stress on losing confidence in your test mark. For example, you can review every morning, afternoon, and evening to retain all of the information.
4. Take a practice test. It will help you get into the mindset of taking the test on the actual day, causing you to feel more prepared for the real assessment. Not only that, but the practice questions will be very similar to the actual questions. Taking a practice test will help you feel more relieved and less stressed on the day of the test.
5. Get a good night's sleep before the day of your test. It helps to reduce tiredness so you can be focused and determined to answer the questions on the test. Sleep will give you more energy, so you will not feel drowsy during your test.
In conclusion, using these methods to reduce stress before or during the test will help you to feel more calm and less frustrated. Being calm brings more awareness towards the questions you are answering on your test.
